Northern Spy by Flynn Berry

Rating 3/5

Summary:

Tessa, a resident in contentious Northern Ireland, is shocked when her sister’s face appears on the news in CCTV footage of a gas station robbery when she is supposed to be on a beach vacation. Even more unsettling, the robbery has been claimed by the Irish Republican Army, who is considered a domestic terrorist group. Knowing this cannot be true, Tessa lies to the cops when they question her about her sister, Marian. As the situation unfolds the truths Tessa thought she was sure of our challenged and she has to make decisions to protect not only her sister, but her infant son and their future.

Review:

The story of the two sisters and their love and frustration for and with each other was a page turner. However; I wasn’t in love with the main character which always makes it hard to connect to the story. There was also a heavy focus on Tessa’s job for the BBC news station which seemed sort of irrelevant. The character growth wasn’t totally believable for me, but I did want to know “who done it,” so I kept reading. It was a great Lifetime movie in a book.
